Troubleshooting.

The usual causes, most likely first.

A showpiece shows a still version

  • WordPress: check the EtchPress Runtime plugin is installed and active.
  • Etch Studio: check all the runtime files are in the Asset Manager, with their original names.
  • Your device may be set to reduce motion. That setting always gets the still version, on purpose.
  • If a performance plugin delays, defers or combines JavaScript, exclude the EtchPress runtime scripts from it.

Ripple shows a plain picture

Its picture is coming from another domain, such as an image CDN. Use a picture from your own media library.

A pasted kit does not look like the demo

  • In the panel, press Build this site on the kit's card and use Only the look: one click adds the kit's two stylesheets (its look, and the motion stylesheet with the light and dark rules), and on an Automatic.css site one more imports its design system, fonts included (backed up first).
  • By hand: import the kit's acss-settings.json in the ACSS dashboard, and add the package's look.css and global.css as Etch stylesheets.
  • Check Automatic.css 4 is active and has generated its stylesheet.
  • Add the kit's fonts, or pick your own in ACSS.

I built a second kit and the site is a mix

Add the kit keeps every page that has content, so a second kit fills only its own pages and the log names whose the kept ones are. For the demo alone, open the kit's Setup and press Start over with the kit: what was there goes to the Trash, your Automatic.css settings are backed up, and the kit is built from empty.

The builder still shows the old kit after a build

Etch reads its lists (Templates, the Content Hub, the pages) once, when the builder loads. Press Open the home page in the panel's What now: it reloads the builder on the new home page. The front end is right at once.

The light and dark switch does nothing on a built kit

Update the EtchPress Runtime to 0.14.1 or later, then in the kit's Setup, Only the look, press Update the kit's stylesheets: the motion stylesheet carries the rules the switch needs.

Nothing happens when I paste

  • Check your Etch version. Kits and items need Etch 1.6 or newer.
  • Click the canvas where it should go, then paste. If the copy was a while ago, copy again.

I pasted a newer version and nothing changed

Etch keeps a component it already has. When you paste a newer version of an item you used before, your pages keep the copy you had.

  • WordPress with the EtchPress Runtime plugin: insert the item from the EtchPress panel in Etch. It tells you when your copy is different and asks first. Keep both adds the new version beside yours and leaves your other pages alone; Update everywhere brings it to every page that uses it, and replaces edits you made to that component.
  • Etch Studio, or a paste without the panel: delete the old component in Etch, then paste the new version. Pages that used the old one need the new one placed again.

Dark mode is not working

Items follow your site's colour scheme. Turn on colour scheme support in the ACSS dashboard.

Plugin updates do not appear

  • Enter your licence key under Settings, EtchPress Runtime.
  • WordPress checks for updates twice a day. Dashboard, Updates, Check again forces it.

Where is my licence key

In the welcome email you get after buying, and in your account under Licence key.
