Header: classic

Brand on the left, navigation in the middle, phone and a button on the right; sticky or static, light or dark, with a plain or bold phone. The navigation is a slot that holds Etch's own Nav and Burger components (included), so the menu, dropdowns and mobile panel are Etch's, styled with your tokens.

Header: classic

What you can build with it

A service business header with phone and a booking button. A sticky header on light or dark. A header whose menu a client edits in WordPress.

Props

brandName (text); brandHref (link); logo (image URL, optional: shown instead of the wordmark); position (select: sticky, static); tone (select: light, dark); phoneStyle (select: plain, bold); showPhone (boolean); phone (text); phoneHref (link); showCta (boolean); ctaLabel (text); ctaHref (link); nav slot (Etch Nav and Burger, or anything)

States shown

Sticky on scroll. Hover and focus on the brand and phone; the button takes ACSS button states; Etch's nav has its own hover, focus, current-page and expanded states. Below 64rem of container width the nav collapses behind the burger (Etch's own rule, made container-based here so it works inside any width); the phone shows as an icon below 72rem and the button hides below 30rem.

How to change it

Content and options are 12 props in the component's settings panel, and what goes inside is a slot you fill with your own blocks. Colour, type, spacing and radius follow your Automatic.css settings, so a change to the site's palette or scale changes this too. For anything else, edit the classes in the Style Manager, starting with .etch-burger, .etch-nav, .site-header. Its behaviour is a small script that travels with the component; no plugin and nothing to install.

ACSS tokens used

body-bg-color, text-dark, primary-dark, border-color-dark (light tone); base-ultra-dark, text-light, primary-light (dark tone); heading font family, text-l, text-s, content-width, space-xs, space-s, focus tokens, transition; sets the nav's own variables from the same tokens

ACSS requirements

ACSS 4 defaults with the accessibility classes on (default), which style the skip link. Uses btn–primary for the button. Etch's Nav Basic and Burger components come with the paste; edit the Basic Nav loop in the Loop Manager for your menu.
